Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City North Ameer and member of central executive council Mohammad Selim Uddin issued a statement strongly condemning the picking up of Maulana Abdur Rafi and demanding the immediate unconditional release. DB denied Maulana Abdur Rafi’s detention.
“As soon as he went down through lift from office to return home on Wednesday afternoon approximately at 7:00 pm from Kama Ataturk Avenue, 34 Banani, DB police picked him up and took him to a white microbus. But we are worried of human rights of the country as he was not surrendered to court though five days have been gone,” he added in a statement.
The family members of missing Maulana Rafi are in extreme fear for the safety of his life. In the meantime, his family has issued a statement saying that if there is any complaint against Maulana Rafi, he should be brought to court according to law or his whereabouts should be traced.
His family members went to Banani police station to file a GD (general diary) but it was not accepted. It is a clear human rights violation.
“Such detention and subsequent disappearance of a citizen of an independent country is not only a matter of concern but also a clear violation of human rights,” he further added.
“Maulana Rafi is a preacher and a person of clean image. He was not committed crimes against state in the past and still not,” he also added.
Rafi has three sons and his wife is pregnant. She is scheduled to be admitted to a hospital in the capital on Sunday. His wife will give birth to a baby but at this moment nobody knows where her husband is.
We expect responsible behavior from the side of government and law enforcement agencies for the search of missing Maulana Rafi.
“If he is committed crimes, appear before court. As per as we know, he was not committed any crimes. We demand his immediate release,” Selim Uddin again added.
