Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City North Ameer and member of central executive council Mohammad Selim Uddin issued a statement strongly condemning and protesting the brutal torture of Maulana Rafi. Maulana Rafi, an activist of Banani thana of Jamaat Dhaka City North, was picked up by DB police.
“He went down through lift from office to return home on Wednesday afternoon approximately at 7:00 pm on February 25 from Kama Ataturk Avenue, 34 Banani, DB police picked him up and took him to a white microbus. Then he was tortured brutally detaining in a secret place. It is a clear human rights violation. The members of Rafi’s family communicated to Banani and Hatirjheel police station but they did not give any information last 6 days,” he added.
“His family members went to Banani police station to file a GD (general diary) but it was not accepted. Such detention and subsequent disappearance of a citizen of an independent country is not only a matter of concern but also a clear violation of human rights. Maulana Rafi is a preacher and a person of clean image. He was not committed crimes against state in the past and still not,” he further added.
“The government has resorted the path of human rights violation in a planned way to suppress the leaders and activists of political opponents. The members of law enforcement agencies detained more than 5 hundred leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from different offices and houses when the simultaneous movement began from last 10 December. Many of them have been tortured brutally and disappeared for six or seven days. Fake, false and fabricated cases have been filled against them and appeared before the court. In 3 days from 27th to 30th of this month of January, Kafrul thana Ameer Professor Anwarul Karim, Pallabi East thana Ameer Abul Kalam Pathan, Vasantek thana Ameer Dr. Ahsan Habib and 12 people were arrested and brutally tortured. When one of them fell seriously ill, he was taken to hospital and sent to jail,” he also added.
“The government is violating political rights of the countrymen including Jamaat barricading mass procession at Malibagh, demonstration at Mohakhali and Mirpur-10,” he again added.
He urged the government not to barricade the political activities of the political parties.
Selim Uddin demanded the immediate and unconditional release and treatment of ill Maulana Rafi.
