Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami central executive council member & Dhaka City North unit’s Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin and secretary Dr Muhammad Rezaul Karim today issued a statement condemning and protesting the barbarous attacks committed by law enforcers and Chhatra League men on Quota reform protesters. The policemen and Chhatra League activists killed at least 5 anti-quota protesters and injured hundreds of members of anti-discrimination student movement at different universities across the country. The city leaders also condemned the attacks of Chhatra League men on anti-quota protesters at University of Dhaka, University of Chittagong, University of Rajshahi, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, University of Barisal, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagar University, Saver, Uttara, Baridhara and Mirpur.
Abolition of quota system in government jobs is not a new matter rather, the ruling government in the recent past issued a circular abolishing quota system. But it is a matter of sorrow that the government has changed its view. Unleashing party activists including Chhatra League men on quota protesters, government has turned the educational institutions into battlefields which reveal the government’s fascist mentality. Starting quota system, Awami League government appointed party men in government jobs.
Anti-quota protest movement is rational. They want meritocracy. Peaceful protest is democratic and constitutional right. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina provoked the protesters and made the situation turbulent which is unwanted and unacceptable.000
