Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will hold demonstrations in all divisional headquarters on August 6. They on Friday pronounced that they would hold demonstrations in all divisional cities on August 6 and said that they had postponed their rally that they planned to hold at Suhrawardy Udyan today.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeeb-e-Ameer Dr. Sayed Abdullah Muhammad Taher made the announcement at a virtual press conference. They also postponed the Suhrawardy Udyan rally as police did not permit them.
Jamaat announced that they would hold a rally at the north gate premises of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on August 1 but later deferred it to Friday to avoid confrontation at Suhrawardy Udyan on August 4 still police did not permit them. They pronounced the rally to press home the demands for holding a free, fair, inclusive and participatory election under caretaker government, the formation of election-time caretaker government, the release of all national leaders and activists, Islamic scholars, preachers including Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the control of price hike of essentials.
‘Holding peaceful rally is a constitutional right. Constitution gives us this right. But the police administration is violating our right. We strongly condemn and protest these,’ Taher added.
The Jamaat leader said that police arrested over 800 leaders and activists of the party across the country in the past one week, after the party had announced their Suhrawardy Udyan rally.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police authorities said on Thursday that they would not permit the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami to hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Friday.
On July 25, a Jamaat delegation visited Dhaka Metropolitan Police Headquarters, seeking permission to hold the rally at the north gate premises of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Jamaat held a peaceful rally at the premises of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on June 10.
