Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City North Nayeeb-e-Ameer and member of central working committee Abdur Rahman Musa and secretary Dr. Muhammad Rezaul Karim strongly condemned and protested the detention of 14 people including Mohammad Selim Uddin, Ameer of Jamaat Dhaka City North and member of central executive council, from an Iftar Mahfil.
“Bashundhara organizational thana of Jamaat Dhaka City North today Friday (7 April) arranged a discussion meeting on the role of Zakat in the socio-economic development of the country and an Iftar Party in the honor of prominent citizens. City Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin was the chief guest in the program. Members of law enforcement agencies identified as DB (Detective Branch) surrounded the venue at 5:50 pm. Later, they picked up 14 people including City Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin at 6:30 pm during taking Iftar. This is injustice and a serious violation of human rights,” the leaders on Friday said in a protest statement.
“Jamaat is regularly working for the welfare of socio-economic progress of the country. They have taken various programs for social and economic progress of the country. Many prominent persons are coming forward to implement Jamaat’s programs. We strongly condemned and protested the detention of Jamaat leaders. We demanded their immediate and unconditional release,” they added.
“Muslims are unable to practise freedom of religion in the holy month of Ramadan though 90% of the total population of this country is Muslim. Harassment, arrest, prosecution and enforced disappearance of Jamaat leaders and activists have become the routine work of the government and its administration. We urged the government and the members of its law enforcement agencies to remain from these outrageous activities,” they also added.
These two Jamaat leaders urged the authorities to release the detainees including City Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin with honor and dignity immediately.
