Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City North Ameer and member of central executive council Mohammad Selim Uddin said, “Life sacrifice for language is a unique and rare incident in the history of globe but due to negative politics, the language martyrs and heroes were not honored properly and Bengali language would not be universal.”
He today said these as the president while speaking at a discussion meeting in an auditorium in the capital. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City North arranged this on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. Jamaat Dhaka City North secretary and member of central working committee Dr. Mohammad Rezaul Karim conducted it. Jamaat Dhaka City North Nayeeb-e-Ameer and member of central working committee Abdur Rahman Musa, member of central Mojlish-e-Shura and assistant secretary of Jamaat Dhaka City North Nazim Uddin Mollah, Dr Fakharuddin Manik and others were also present in the discussion meeting.
The language movement of 1952 was only for the movement of language but also for the movement of independence. We gained independence by following this path. But it is a matter of sorrow that still we are unable to enjoy the rights of democracy and freedom of expression. Language martyrs were not honored properly due to avarice of a group. It has not been possible to run Bengali in every sector. Even books on medicine, engineering and law have not yet been translated into Bengali. It is our national failure.
He remembered the martyrs of language movement payed tribune to them. He demanded to the government to pay state tribune to the family members of language martyrs.
“The language movement was started on September 15, 1948. Tamaddun Majlish played an active role in this movement. Professor Golum Azam was a frontline activist of this movement. He also read the charter to the Prime Minister of Pakistan demanding Bengali as the state language. Though professor Golum Azam was the elected GS Of DUCSU, his name has been erased from DUCSU’s nameplate due to political narrowness and inferiority complex. This language hero was died. He has been deprived of all achievements of language movement. But they were not succeeded and will not be. History will remember the actual heroes,” he added.
He urged all to play an active role to uphold the true history to the nation.
“The spirit of liberation war was the establishment of justice based society instead of injustice and discrimination. Today, the people of Bangladesh are unable to practise freedom of speech and democracy though 50 years of independence have already been crossed. Political opponents are unable to hold their political activities,” he also added.
There is no alternative but establishing people’s government to restore democracy and constitutional rights. He called forth all to be united to the spirit of 21th February to establish an exploitation, deprivation, hunger and poverty free society.
“The government has destroyed democracy and democratic institutions in the country,” he again added.
He urged the government to hand over power to caretaker government immediately. Otherwise, people will oust this anti-people government by mass movement In-Sha-Allah.
