Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City North Ameer and member of central executive council Mohammad SAelim Uddin said, “Don’t charge batons on Jamaat activists. Don’t take away their rights. They have millions of supporters. You have hanged our leaders; you have prisoned our leaders illegally. You have beaten us but still we are obedient to laws. Don’t abuse laws.”
He today said these while speaking at a pre-demonstration rally at Badda in the capital. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City North arranged a demonstration demanding the cancellation of atheism and anti-Islam topics from the national curriculum, reducing the increased electricity prices, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners including Jamaat Ameer and the restoration of caretaker government during national election.
The demonstration was started from Badda Subasto Valley area. It moved various important roads of the city. It was ended at Gulshan Link-road area by a short rally.
“The production of mills and factories has been stopped as the prices of gas and electricity have been increased. The inflation has been occurred as the prices of daily necessaries have been increased. The government could not control market price. Millions of dollars have been laundered by corruption,” he added.
Jamaat Dhaka City North secretary and member of central working committee Dr. Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Mahfuzur Rahman, member of central Mojlish-e-Shura and assistant secretary of Jamaat Dhaka City North, Nazim Uddin Mollah, Dr Fakharuddin Manik, Jamaat Dhaka City North working committee member Jamal Uddin, Ziaul Hasan, Muhibullah, Muhammad Ataur Rahman Sarker, Nasir Uddin and others were also present in the demonstration.
“You are not our opponents. The government may criticize us if they want. But you have violated the constitution barricading the demonstration. The nation will not tolerate these more. Don’t charge batons on us,” Selim Uddin said to the authorities.
“We demand the restoration of caretaker government and the resignation of this government. We also demand the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners including Ameer-e-Jamaat,” he further added.
“Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is not a new political party in Bangladesh. Jamaat is one of the oldest political parties in the country. Millions of people support Jamaat. You cannot take away the rights of millions of people,” he added mentioning the popularities of Jamaat.
He urged the countrymen and city dwellers to take part in Jamaat’s program unitedly to bring down the tyrannical government. At the end of the peaceful demonstration, police attacked activists and pedestrians. As a result, some activists and pedestrians were injured. Police arrested 8/ 10 people unlawfully at that time.
